metabolism

Does anyone have any tips for what to do when your metabolism starts seriously slowing down? I'm eating no more than 500 cal. a day max, and fasting most days but I'm GAINING weight. It sucks. And working out isn't helping. Has anyone tried the 2468 diet? Does it work?
